Dear Neighbors,
Hercules is now a place where people desire to live and raise families. Over the past several years, our community has made important progress, and that progress has helped make Hercules a safe, well-maintained place to live.
As the City looks ahead, we must help protect and maintain essential City services that residents rely on every day—such as neighborhood police patrols, fast 911 response times, parks, and youth and senior services—especially at a time of economic and national uncertainty.
Like many small and mid-sized cities, Hercules faces challenges that are often beyond local control. Federal and state governments tend to favor larger cities like San José and San Francisco when it comes to funding and resources, and now the State has its own budget deficit. These realities make it especially important for Hercules to have strategies that ensure we can remain self-reliant, with locally controlled funding for our critical City services—funding that stays in Hercules and cannot be taken by the state.
As we plan for the future, residents have consistently told the City that the following priorities matter most:
- Maintaining long-term financial stability/accountability
- Retaining and attracting local businesses
- Meeting water quality health standards
- Maintaining fast 911 response times
These priorities are about protecting what makes Hercules a strong, livable community today—and ensuring the City can continue providing reliable services well into the future.
Your input matters. Please provide YOUR feedback on these priorities, or your own, by completing our community feedback form today to help guide decisions about City services and long-term financial planning.
