The City of Hercules invites residents to help shape the future of Hercules at the upcoming Horizon 2050 Community Workshop on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Hercules Library, 109 Civic Drive. 

Horizon 2050 is an update to the City’s General Plan, which serves as the City’s primary road map over the next 25 years. Hercules’ current General Plan was last comprehensively updated in 1998.  While individual elements have been updated since, significant changes, including new state laws and evolving local needs, require a comprehensive refresh. 

“The Horizon 2050 General Plan is a significant opportunity to collaboratively define the future of our community,” said Interim City Manager Patrick Tang. “We look forward to hearing directly from our residents about what they value most and how they envision Hercules growing.”

Through Horizon 2050, the City is completing a focused update to reflect current conditions, establish goals and ensure compliance with state law. The process will update the General Plan’s Land Use, Circulation, Open Space and Conservation, Economic Development and Noise elements.The plan will reflect community priorities and establish a long-term vision for housing, development and public spaces. 

During the Sept. 10 workshop, participants will have the opportunity to provide input on how Hercules should evolve and where new development should go in the next 25 years. Community members can also help inform Horizon 2050 by completing the project’s first online survey.

“We encourage residents to attend the workshop or take the online survey so their voices are part of this process,” said Community Development Director Tim Rood. “We are excited to build a future that reflects the needs and goals of our community.”
