Hercules, Calif. – Hercules City Manager Dante Hall has announced he is stepping down as City Manager after nearly five years of dedicated service to the Hercules community. He has accepted an offer to serve as City Manager for the City of Monterey. His tenure concludes this spring and his resignation is effective March 23. As the City begins this transition, it recognizes Hall’s significant success and lasting impact on the Hercules community.
“Serving the City of Hercules has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” said City Manager Dante Hall. “It has been my privilege to work with the dedicated people of Hercules and collaborate with individuals who care passionately about this community. I am especially grateful to the City Council, staff and residents for their trust and support.”
Throughout his time with Hercules, Hall led major initiatives that strengthened the City’s fiscal health, modernized operations and expanded community engagement. His incredible leadership reinforced resident transparency and collaboration across City departments and the community.
Some of Hall’s accomplishments include completing of the City’s first Parks Master Plan, advancing the Hercules Hub project by securing $2.4 million of funding for the City’s highly-anticipated major housing and transportation initiative; strengthening the City’s long-term fiscal sustainability by guiding the successful passage of the User Utility Tax Extension; and overseeing the adoption of new sewer rates and impact fees and approval of the Proposition 218 vote for the Victoria by the Bay Landscaping and Lighting District.
He played a key part in the City’s reclamation of Housing Successor Agency assets, as well as the negotiation and approval of a new solid waste franchise agreement. Hall led the launch of the Team Up to Clean Up volunteer program; hosting the City’s State of the City events; supporting development of annual reports that inform residents of measurable City progress; and overseeing new City logo development and implementation that reflects Hercules’ character and future vision.
Rooted in connection and teamwork, Hall focused on stabilizing and modernizing City operations while consistently prioritizing the well-being of staff and the broader community. He hired four new department heads during his tenure, assisted in strengthening records management policies and advanced strategic information technology planning.
Hall also expanded civic engagement and strengthened communication with residents. He facilitated the launch of Hercules Connect, a platform residents use to access City updates, report issues and request a range of services. He furthered the City’s commitment to transparency by enhancing social media outreach across diverse platforms. Notably, Hall implemented the City’s monthly digital city manager newsletter, the Hercules Herald, to share milestones, exciting events and business opportunities with the community. Together, these efforts have connected thousands of locals, developed a sense of community and made it easier to remain updated on City news.
“On behalf of Hercules City Council and staff, we extend a heartfelt thank you to City Manager Hall for his partnership, support and commitment to making Hercules a more vibrant and resilient City. We wish him well in all his future endeavors and look forward to building upon the work he has done to strengthen Hercules and set our community up for success,” said Mayor Chris Kelley.
Hall’s leadership stands as a true testimony to his commitment to public service and to building an interconnected City agency. The City Council will soon address the next steps related to interim leadership and the recruitment of a new City Manager. Hercules remains committed to keeping residents informed of this transition as information becomes available.
